Mortal Shell 2 Patch 1 notes cover Gloom, gold, Tarforge costs, boss health, weapon buffs, Guard changes and crash fixes from the official Steam post.

If you are looking for Mortal Shell 2 Patch 1 notes, the first official balance post is now available on Steam. The post says Balance Patch 1 is live on PC and was coming to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series shortly when the note was published on August 20, 2026. This page records the published changes; it does not assume that every platform received the patch at exactly the same time.

Mortal Shell 2 Patch 1 quick summary

The patch focuses on launch balance and stability rather than adding a new campaign chapter. The official post lists economy changes, lower health or damage for selected encounters, weapon buffs, a walking Guard change, Tarstone buffs, and miscellaneous crash and performance fixes.

Economy changes: Gloom, Glimpses and gold

Shell map locations and refunded Glimpses

The official note says Shell map locations now cost Gloom. It also says that Glimpses spent on shell maps are being refunded, with the refunded Glimpses found in the Shell Keeper’s alcove in Blackmarrow. That is the patch’s specific location instruction; do not treat every Shell-related purchase as a refund location.

Mammon gold drops

Enemy gold drops were increased, and the patch calls out Mammon specifically: enemies there now drop double the gold. This changes the economy pressure described by early launch discussions, but it does not by itself establish the best farming route or a fixed gold-per-enemy table.

Tarforge smelting

Smelting a weapon at the Tarforge now costs 75% less Gloom. If you were delaying a weapon experiment because of the old cost, this is the most immediately useful change to test. It is still safer to compare weapons on the current build instead of assuming a patch note makes one weapon universally best.

The official wording is: “Smelting a weapon at the Tarforge costs 75% less Gloom.”

For the wider weapon system, see the Mortal Shell 2 weapons guide and Mortal Shell 2 weapon upgrade guide.

Enemy and boss balance changes

The post says enemies featured in the Open Beta were restored to their Beta HP values, with one named exception: the Caerinid Spider in Magdalena’s area keeps its threatening role and does not respawn once defeated.

The published boss changes are:

  • The Lost Child: base damage reduced by 10%; maximum health reduced by 15%.
  • Monolith: base damage reduced by 19%; maximum health reduced by 10%; some attacks were retimed to be fairer.

The named enemy changes are:

  • Cultist with mace: maximum health reduced by 21.1%.
  • Caerinid Spider: maximum health reduced by 33.3%.
  • Infested Stalker: maximum health reduced by 52.4%.
  • Rusted Knave with halberd: maximum health reduced by 20.8%, with overhead-strike hit detection fixed.

These are patch-note values, not a complete enemy database. They do not tell us every attack’s damage, stagger threshold, drop table, or location. For player-reported encounter problems, compare the Mortal Shell 2 launch-bugs page with the Mortal Shell 2 boss difficulty guide.

Weapon changes in Balance Patch 1

The official post lists four weapon-related changes:

  1. Great Martyr’s Blade attack damage: increased by 20%. This one did not actually ship. In the Week 1 Update on 29 August, Cold Symmetry wrote that the buff “didn’t actually make it in the last patch” and replaced it with a larger, unquantified increase. If you tested the Blade in the nine days after this patch, you were testing an unbuffed weapon.
  2. Troubador’s Lute attack damage: increased by 100% — the largest single buff in the patch, and notable because the Lute has no unlock achievement, so it does not appear in Valve’s thirteen-weapon list at all.
  3. Caged Hystrix and Triarch Repeater: no longer require a minimum Resolve to fire. The phrase “to fire” is the only official confirmation that these two are ranged, which makes them the strongest Sidearm candidates on the roster.
  4. Axatana, Black Needle and Clockwork Scythe: improved tracking for light attacks. This line is how we know Black Needle is a weapon and not a Shell — Shells do not have light attacks, and the achievement text for Black Needle is ambiguous enough that it is widely miscategorised.

Damage buffs are not promises about total damage per second. Attack speed, reach, recovery, enemy resistance, Shell abilities and Tarstones can all affect a real build. The separate Great Martyr’s Blade patch guide covers the two-patch buff history in full, and the weapons hub records which rows now rest on patch evidence rather than on their names.

Seals, Tarstones and stability

The patch makes one direct Seal change: Guard can now be used while walking. The official note also says that Parasitic Stone, Grudge Stone, Bulwark Stone, Clerik’s Stone and Squall Stone were buffed. It does not publish new numeric effects for those Tarstones in the post, so this page does not invent them.

The final section is labelled miscellaneous crash fixes, bug fixes and performance updates. That is useful confirmation that stability work shipped, but it is not a complete crash log. If your PC still has blur, stutter or frame-generation trouble, use the reversible checks in the Mortal Shell 2 PC performance guides and record your hardware and current build before reporting it.

What Patch 1 does not confirm

The same official post says larger future updates may extend features such as Night Mode, Tarstones and PP Items. That is a development statement, not a promise that those future extensions are already present in Balance Patch 1. It also does not provide a full weapon-location list, complete boss guide, or universal performance guarantee.

For the next step, update the game, confirm the platform’s installed build, then retest the weapon or encounter that brought you here. The Mortal Shell 2 Steam reviews guide remains a useful snapshot of player feedback, while this page is limited to the official patch post.
