Mortal Shell II Open Beta Weapons Guide: Axe, Dagger and Upgrade Planning

What the Mortal Shell II Open Beta officially confirms about the Axe and Dagger objective, weapon discovery, upgrades, carry-over rules and missing retail details.

Last verified

This Mortal Shell II Open Beta weapons guide separates confirmed evidence from assumptions. The Beta gives players a real weapon-discovery objective, but the official Steam page does not publish a complete weapon list, exact pickup coordinates or final upgrade values.

What is confirmed in the Open Beta?

Steam’s achievement list includes Find Axe and Dagger. That is reliable evidence that the Beta contains an Axe-and-Dagger discovery objective. It does not, by itself, confirm the final retail weapon catalogue, damage numbers or a universal pickup route.

The full-game Steam listing also confirms that Mortal Shell II is built around melee and ranged weapon upgrades. That is a full-game feature statement, not proof that every weapon or upgrade path is available in the limited Beta.

How to approach the Beta weapon objective

Explore side paths before committing to the main route

The Beta includes optional dungeons, hidden mini-bosses and challenges. Check these detours instead of only following the golden path, because the official description specifically presents exploration as part of the Beta experience.

Keep a simple discovery checklist

  • Search the first explorable region beyond the Prologue.
  • Check optional dungeons and challenge spaces.
  • Look for the Axe-and-Dagger objective in the Steam achievement list.
  • Test any newly found weapon before spending all available upgrade resources.
  • Record the exact room, landmark and route in your own run so the retail location can be verified later.

Should you spend all your upgrade resources in the Beta?

Treat the Beta as a controlled test run. Public Steam player reports mention that additional weapons can arrive late enough to limit experimentation, while other players report using the Beta to compare different playstyles. That feedback is useful for planning, but it is not a developer rule and it can vary by route.

A sensible approach is to upgrade the weapon you are actively using, but keep enough flexibility to test a newly discovered weapon before committing every resource. Do not carry this assumption into the retail game without checking the launch build’s economy.

Do Beta weapons carry over?

No. The official Steam Beta page said that currency, weapons, Shells, collectibles and other items found in the Beta would reset at launch, and that is what happened on 20 August 2026. The confirmed carry-over rewards were the Flayed Harbinger cosmetic and the option to skip the Prologue after reaching Marrow Keep.

Why this page does not list invented locations or stats

The official Beta page confirmed the Axe-and-Dagger objective but never provided a complete map, exact coordinates, damage values or an upgrade table. The Weapons tracker therefore keeps prequel-based entries separate from sequel evidence.

The retail achievement list has since named all twelve Weapons and Sidearms in the shipped game — Axe and Dagger, Forgotten Crossbow, Veteran’s Battle Axe, Great Martyr’s Blade, Salvaged Trebuchaxe, Axatana, Triarch Repeater, Clockwork Scythe, Caged Hystrix, Obsidian Hammer, Ballistazooka and Cursed Child. See all 53 achievements for the source. Valve publishes the names, not the stats or which of the twelve are Sidearms, so per-weapon pages are still gated on direct verification rather than guesswork.
