Mortal Shell 2 First Week Progression: What Changed After Launch
A Mortal Shell II first-week progression guide explaining Balance Patch 1, the Week 1 Update, Tarforge, ripostes, weapons and what to revisit.
Last verified
If you started Mortal Shell II at release, two post-launch updates changed enough systems to justify revisiting an early build. Balance Patch 1 addressed weapon access, Tarforge cost and several named weapons. The Week 1 Update followed with a larger heavy-weapon, sidearm, riposte and Tarstone pass.
The changes worth checking first
- Tarforge smelting costs are 75% lower than the original launch cost.
- Great Martyr’s Blade received a corrected follow-up buff after the first announced buff did not ship as expected.
- The Obsidian Hammer received a full balance pass.
- Heavy weapons received a poise and damage pass.
- Axatana received ability changes and improved light-attack tracking.
- Caged Hystrix and Triarch Repeater no longer require minimum Resolve to fire.
- Riposte damage now scales with enemy health and the invulnerability window is more consistent.
A sensible return route
Do not restart your character merely because an old tier list is stale. Visit the Tarforge, test the weapon you already own, review one difficult boss or dungeon, then decide whether a respec or weapon swap solves a real problem. Your own save, Shell bond and map knowledge are progression that a patch does not erase.
Why the patch date belongs in every guide
“Best weapon” and “hardest boss” are versioned questions. If a page does not state whether it was written before or after the Week 1 Update, its advice cannot be compared with a current run. The Balance Patch 1 guide and Week 1 Update guide contain the detailed change records.
