Mortal Shell 2 Ranged Build: Caged Hystrix, Triarch Repeater and Safe Pressure
A Mortal Shell II ranged combat guide using the two named firing weapons and the post-launch resolve change, without inventing damage values.
Last verified
The two clearest ranged options named in the released Mortal Shell II record are the Caged Hystrix and Triarch Repeater. Balance Patch 1 removed their minimum Resolve requirement to fire. The patch does not publish their base damage, rate of fire or a best Shell pairing, so this is a pressure guide rather than a fake DPS ranking.
What changed after launch
The useful confirmed change is simple: neither named firing weapon keeps the old minimum Resolve gate to fire. That makes a ranged opening easier to test early in a run. It does not prove that every shot is free, that ammo is unlimited, or that the two sidearms have identical rules.
The Week 1 Update also fixed cases where sidearm projectiles failed to register against weak points or selected the wrong target. If an older launch guide says the problem is always player aim, check the patch date before copying it.
A safe ranged loop
- Enter a space with a retreat lane rather than firing from a corner.
- Use one shot to test target selection and weak-point registration.
- Move immediately after the shot; do not wait for a second projectile if the enemy is closing.
- Swap to melee when the enemy commits to a readable attack.
- Record Shell, sidearm, Tarstones and patch version before comparing results.
The sidearms and ranged combat guide has the broader system explanation. The weapon upgrade guide explains why a number should not be copied between patches.
What remains unverified
No checked public record establishes a complete sidearm damage table, exact ammo economy, acquisition route or a universal ranged build. Keep those fields open until a dated retail-build test exists.
